What is the CSST Program?
Emergency management agencies rely heavily on volunteers to assist with disaster response, planning, and community preparedness. Local opportunities near you range from serving in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to joining specialized disaster response and communication teams.

Who can be a CERT volunteer?
Anyone can join CERT. We need volunteers to support the Incident Command System (ICS) command and general staff functions and to volunteer in the disaster field with response missions.
What are the training requirements?
The national CERT Basic Training is required to be a CERT volunteer.
CERT Basic Training
The CERT Basic Training provides self-help training to volunteers such as disaster medical operations, light search and rescue operations, terrorism, and other important topics.
What does it take to be a CERT member?
- Complete the online CERT Orientation
- Create a profile within the Ohio Responds Database at www.ohioresponds.odh.ohio.gov
- Disclose your full medical license within your profile* if you are registering as a medical volunteer
- Affirm the Oath online
- Take the required training
*Profiles in researching status within Ohio Responds will remain in that status until all requirements are met.
